Lake County, with its hundreds of sparkling lakes, is a paradise for lovers of the outdoors. Every direction you turn - from the lakes to the hilltops and into the beautiful blue skies beyond - you'll find exciting adventures, and rejuvenation tranquility. Here on the country side of Orlando you can ride bikes or horses, play the golf of a lifetime, catch the big one, find antique treasures, or fly through the air (by glider or parachute) with the greatest of ease. You can enjoy the hospitality at wonderful hotels, inns and restaurants. Or just take in the view at the lake. After all, this is Lake County, and we have a thousand to choose from.
Taking a leisurely ride through the famous Harris Chain of Lakes. This chain, if followed up the St. Johns River, eventually goes all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. Of special interest is the Dora Canal, which connects Lakes Dora and Eustis. In the 1930's Grantland Rice, a leading sportswrwriter, stated "the most beautiful half-mile of water in the world." Other outdoor activities range from the extremely popular pastimes of camping, golf, tennis, racquetball, shuffleboard and lawn bowling, to those which are more exotic, including skydiving and glider-plane soaring and lessons. Lake County is also a haven for bicyclists who enjoy the lush scenery and the gentle hills.
In charming and quaint downtown areas you'll find beautiful turn-of-the-century homes and buildings to enjoy, and enchanting antique stores to browse through and to find treasures. The finest fishing and boating area in the world is found in Lake County. The large chain of lakes affords hours of relaxation and pleasure. We are on the inland waterway and are bordered by lake Dora and Lake Eustis along Highway 441. These two lakes are joined by the Dora Canal. Through a connection of rivers and canals, there is easy access to seven lakes.
